Eco Gift 2008 is just 60 days away...
FROM THE FOUNDER

Dear Eco Express Krewe,

Welcome to October!  Some great news:

This is a time of Magic, not logic. This is the time we have all been waiting for!

Have you noticed how everybody seems busy pretty much all of the time? Parents are busy. Business people are busy. We entrepreneurs are crazy busy. And even our kids are busy, too. It used to be "Hey, let's get together at the end of the day when things calm down." Then it was, "How about the weekend?" Now it has become, "I have an opening next January. Is that okay for you?" To live fully in this time is so very difficult. We are distracted by everything. And so, we cultivate our personal practice to combat this mad overwhelming life we have steeped for ourselves. Personal practice is the time we connect with our body, our breath, our mind and our spirit. For some it is a good workout at the gym. Others practice Yoga. Still others meditate. We open our ears, our mouths close, we do nothing. My good friend, Max Simon says, "If you're not good at doing nothing, how can you be truly good at doing anything?" Guru Singh, an exceptional teacher, points out that it is our 'inner world' not outer world that leads us to magical experiences. Accessing that inner world is what personal practice is all about. And it is this writer's belief that the world is made a better place the more magic people see in it.

When you come to Eco Gift on December 12th, 13th and 14th, we will provide you with an unparalleled eco-shopping opportunity, world-class educators, speakers and musicians. And we promise not to skimp on the Magic. With Love and Gratitude...

Tommy Rosen

Eco Gift expo changes its name to eco gift festival

After no small modicum of deliberation and many discussions with you all, we have decided to call our event The Eco Gift Festival because we feel it better communicates the totality of what our event is.

Eco Gift Festival has 4 main offerings:  One-Stop shopping for all things Green, A world-class Speaker Series, a Live Music Extravaganza and a gorgeous foray into Organic Vegetarian Cuisine.  We hope you like our new name and decide to come join us at "The Fest" this December 12-14.

CBS RADIO

Most of you will not know the name, Jacki Paddock, but as Director of Green News and Business Development, she is the force behind 97.1 Talk Radio's mission to make it easy for the mainstream to go green.
I went into meet with Jacki and was impressed to hear what she is accomplishing at CBS Radio by supporting Green Business, Green Expos and community-based events.  This year, CBS will be promoting Eco Gift 2008 and we want to support them right back.  Check in to 97.1 talk radio or any of the other 6 CBS Radio stations in LA and let them know how much you appreciate their support of Green Events such as Eco Gift 2008.

ECO HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PAST MONTH

ELEVATE FILM FESTIVAL

Our hats are off to the people responsible for this extraordinary film festival.  WOW!
Held at the new Nokia Theater in downtown LA, this visionary event gives film producers and directors 7 days to make an "elevating" movie from start to finish covering any social issue.  The winners of the competition had their films featured at the free event, which included an award ceremony and an after-party that may very well still be going on.  If you missed it, do not worry.  You can still check out The Films here

YOGA MONTH

If you see Johannes Fisslinger or any of his krewe walking down the street, give them a big hug.  In their first year, Yoga Month pulled off a 10-city tour throughout the month of September bringing the concepts of Yoga and Health to any and all who would come participate.  Santa Tommy and his Elves from Eco Gift were in the house at Loyola Marymount for LA's Yoga Month Gathering.  A great time was had
by all.

GREAT EFFORT OF THE MONTH: ANNALISE OBERTS

Annalise Oberts has trained for the Denver marathon and on October 19th will lace up her shoes to raise money for a very special cause.  Annalise writes, "I am running because I have set an intention to raise $20,000 as part of the Off the Mat, Into the World (OTM) Seva Challenge.  This year's challenge is benefiting the Cambodian Children's Fund (CCF), an organization dedicated to helping Cambodia's poorest, most undereducated and most vulnerable children realize their potential through education, training, healthcare and community work."
Please look into Annalise's "26.2 Miles for Cambodia" effort and also check out OTM.  These are people who are doing incredible work in the world.

PRODUCT OF THE MONTH

TOM'S SHOES

If you do not yet know about this company, please do one of the following things: 1) If you live in LA, please go to Tom's Shoes Pop-Up Store at 1617 Abbot Kinney before October 22nd (Event Phone Number: 310-566-3170) 2) If you do not live in LA, then go to Tomsshoes.com and buy as many pairs of these shoes as you can. For every pair that Tom's sells, they give a pair of shoes away to a child in need somewhere in the world. That is creative capitalism. That is the future. That is Tom's Shoes. Tom's Shoes will have a major presence at Eco Gift 2008 including a speaking engagement by founder, Blake Mycoskie.
